Pooling Industry Innovation, Empowering UHPC Pole Upgrades

On July 11, 2026, the 2026 Annual Conference and Industry Technology Innovation Forum of the Concrete Pole Branch of the China Concrete & Cement Products Association was successfully held in Guiyang. The conference, themed "Foundation · Innovation · Symbiosis", brought together nearly 200 industry leaders, experts, and representatives from leading companies across the pole industry chain. In-depth discussions were held on topics including new power system construction, carbon peaking & neutrality implementation, material innovation, intelligent manufacturing, and standards upgrade.
The conference was hosted by the Concrete Pole Branch and organized by Suzhou Concrete & Cement Products Research Institute. It brought together key stakeholders from power grid units, research institutes, pole manufacturers, and raw material suppliers. Association leaders and industry experts delivered presentations covering annual industry development reports, new standard interpretations, low-carbon development pathways, UHPC new material applications, high-bending-moment pole R&D, smart factories, and overseas market strategies — collectively outlining the future development roadmap for the pole industry.

Ganzhou Daye Metallic Fibres Co., Ltd. was invited to attend the conference and participated in the full agenda, contributing to the standardization and green, low-carbon development of the pole industry with high-performance steel fiber material technology.
General Manager Liu Zhaoxiang engaged in multiple rounds of in-depth discussions with the association council, standardization experts, leading pole manufacturers, and suppliers of silica fume and high-performance concrete materials. Through these presentations and exchanges, our company clearly identified key industry opportunities and transformation directions: against the backdrop of State Grid and Southern Grid's "15th Five-Year Plan" large-scale grid investments and accelerated new energy grid integration, pole demand continues to expand. However, the industry simultaneously faces multiple challenges including structural capacity adjustments, homogeneous competition, tightening environmental regulations, and product performance upgrades.

The industry is clearly advancing toward four key directions: high-strength lightweight materials, green low-carbon practices, digital intelligence manufacturing, and multi-functional integration. Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC), with its advantages of high toughness, superior durability, and lightweight properties, is emerging as the mainstream technical route for high-bending-moment poles and new distribution poles. The market growth rate has been consistently increasing year after year, representing an important growth direction worthy of attention across the value chain.
In the standards and green development segment, the conference highlighted the 2026 edition of the "Cement Pole Spot Inspection Specification" and the "Design Specification for Circular Cross-Section Concrete Pole Structures." It also promoted life-cycle carbon footprint accounting for concrete products and a four-dimensional low-carbon implementation roadmap. The industry will fully adopt product standardization, carbon labeling, and green factory certification, creating pressure for raw material suppliers to establish uniform quality standards.
Drawing on over two decades of steel fiber R&D and production experience, General Manager Liu Zhaoxiang engaged with industry experts to explore standardized application solutions for steel fiber in UHPC poles. This effort aims to incorporate high-performance fiber materials into the pole prefabrication supporting standard system, helping the industry unify raw material quality control indicators to ensure pole mechanical performance and long-term durability from the source.

During the conference, a materials expert from Guangdong Gateqi New Materials delivered a featured presentation on the application prospects of UHPC in power engineering, highlighting that the domestic UHPC market is growing at an average annual rate of 40%. High-bending-moment UHPC poles can replace traditional steel tubular poles and angle steel towers, offering the combined advantages of low cost, maintenance-free operation, and high durability. As the critical reinforcing material that determines the crack resistance, flexural strength, and fatigue performance of UHPC poles, steel fiber is a core supporting material essential for product realization. In response to this industry need, General Manager Liu Zhaoxiang engaged in in-depth exchanges with multiple pole manufacturers, presenting Ganzhou Daye's copper-plated hooked-end UHPC-specific steel fiber products and demonstrating material compatibility advantages and application solutions.

Ganzhou Daye has been deeply engaged in the metal fiber field for over two decades. Our independently developed and manufactured UHPC-specific copper-plated hooked-end steel fiber uses high-carbon steel substrates combined with precision copper-plating and hooked-end forming processes. The product fully complies with the GB/T 39147 national standard and passes 28 quality inspection checkpoints throughout the entire production process, ensuring stable and controllable quality. When Daye steel fiber is incorporated into the UHPC pole matrix, it forms a three-dimensional random reinforcing network within the material. Through crack-bridging mechanisms, it significantly enhances the pole's tensile, flexural, and impact resistance while effectively suppressing micro-cracks caused by wet-dry cycles, freeze-thaw cycles, and load cycling. The hooked-end design strengthens the anchorage between the fiber and the concrete matrix, improving UHPC crack resistance by over 60% compared to ordinary steel fiber and significantly extending the outdoor service life of poles.

Additionally, UHPC poles formulated with Daye steel fiber enable lightweight production, reducing concrete consumption by 30%–50% under equivalent bending moment capacity. This lowers raw material consumption and transportation-related carbon emissions, precisely aligning with the industry's green, low-carbon, and cost-efficiency development requirements. The solution is well-suited for diverse application scenarios including heavy ice areas, coastal corrosive environments, and high-bending-moment heavy-load distribution poles.

During the exchanges, multiple pole manufacturers reported that current mass production of high-bending-moment UHPC poles commonly faces process challenges including uneven fiber dispersion, insufficient corrosion protection, and inconsistent mechanical properties. Daye's standardized customized steel fiber products can address these pain points in a targeted manner, making the prospects for cooperation highly promising.

General Manager Liu Zhaoxiang stated that Ganzhou Daye will continue to leverage its existing automated production lines and supporting testing laboratory advantages to provide pole manufacturers with one-stop services including customized steel fiber formulation solutions, sample testing, and technical support. The company aims to collaborate with the value chain to optimize UHPC pole production processes and promote large-scale application of high-performance fiber materials in power precast components.

In closing the conference, Branch Chairman Tong Yong summarized that the industry must uphold quality standards, accelerate technological innovation, eliminate homogeneous low-price competition, and foster collaborative symbiosis across the upstream and downstream value chain. General Manager Liu Zhaoxiang expressed full agreement and stated that Ganzhou Daye will use this annual conference as an opportunity to deepen regular collaboration with the Concrete Pole Branch, closely follow trends in standards updates, low-carbon transformation, and UHPC material upgrades, and continuously optimize its steel fiber product system. On one hand, the company will cooperate with the industry to promote standardized raw material supporting systems and establish fiber quality control specifications tailored to poles. On the other hand, it will increase R&D investment in green fibers, leveraging industrial solid waste co-utilization and low-energy processes to reduce product carbon footprint, providing low-carbon reinforcement material solutions for pole manufacturers.
Looking ahead, Ganzhou Daye will continue to deepen its presence in the pole supporting sector, using high-performance steel fiber material innovation as a driver to empower technological iteration of UHPC high-bending-moment poles and new green distribution poles.
